Port and Harbour Management

About the Department

Department of Port and Harbour Engineering was founded along with the establishment of MMU in 2002. It is one of the degree offering departments of Myanmar Maritime University to cover the students’ career-oriented training courses not only in the port engineering field but also in the coastal engineering field. The academic program of Department of Port and Harbour Engineering was started since 2002-2003 academic year. The first batch of Port and Harbour Engineering students have been graduated in 2007 April. The master degree program of Department of Port and Harbour Engineering has been opened since 2013-2014 academic year.

This course aims to produce human resources of well competent professionals in planning, designing and constructing of ports and harbors facilities with modern technologies. To achieve above goals, the students have to learn totally 26 subjects for five-year undergraduate program and two-year master degree program from Port and Harbor Engineering Department.

All subjects provided by the department are mainly intended to produce the human resources who have solid foundation in construction and industrial principles for Marine Structures such as port structures and coastal structures with theoretical and practical competent skills, moral and ethic. The department prepares graduates who have the motivation and ability for lifelong growth in their professional carriers.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objective of this department is to promote the international practice and technologies in marine civil engineering fields of coastal, ports and harbors and to provide the essential human resources with the abilities to analyze complex engineering problems, to propose a logical engineering solution systematically and practically, to design accounting different perspectives, to learn continuously throughout their career.

Quality Objectives

  • Port and Harbour engineering students must be well educated in the field of Civil Engineering on land as well as Port Engineering in a River channel and Coast line, and Coastal Engineering in a Coastal region.
  • For the final year students, port model competition program will be held and the development research project could be done to acquire the maritime knowledge and the solid foundation in construction and industrial principles for marine structures such as port structures and coastal structures.
