Department of Nautical Science

About the Department

    Nautical Science Department was launched in 2002-2003 academic year together with the establishment of Myanmar Maritime University (MMU). It is a responsible department of MMU to cover the students’ career-oriented training courses for maritime navigation field. The NS department is continuously producing the deck cadets for maritime industry.
    The academic program of Nautical Science Department was started from 2003-2004 academic year. The first batch of Nautical Science students have been graduated in 2007.
    All subjects provided by the NS Department are mainly intended to meet the requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency for the field of maritime navigation, ship handling and maneuvering. The Department offers the Bachelor of Science (Nautical Science) (honours) B.Sc. (Hons.) (Nautical Science) program for five years course.

Aims and Objectives

This study program aims to produce the skillful maritime navigation deck officers for Maritime Industries.

Quality Objectives

  • To improve the pass percentage of nautical science subjects to 95% at least in 2016-2017 academic year.
  • For the final year students, port model competition program will be held and the development research project could be done to acquire the maritime knowledge and the solid foundation in construction and industrial principles for marine structures such as port structures and coastal structures.
